Founded in 2008, RefuSHE is a non-profit organization with operations in Nairobi, Kenya that protects, educates, and empowers young refugee women and girls through a unique holistic model that provides shelter, education, case management, counseling, childcare, legal advocacy, and vocational training. RefuSHE’s holistic program meets the imminent and longer terms needs of unaccompanied, separated, and orphaned refugee girls, young women, and their children. It is the first and only organization dedicated to refugee girls in East Africa. Over the past fourteen years, RefuSHE has grown to become a leading institution and global thought-leader in the field of refugee girl and women protection, education, and empowerment.
Position Summary Position Title: Gender Based Violence Officer (National Position) Reports to: SGBV & Livelihoods Manager The Officer will play a leadership and oversight role of all the GBV activities supported by the community outreach program team.
Key Responsibilities
• Participate in the development and production of communication materials (leaflets, posters, brochures) to raise awareness on GBV and outreach to the community.
• Conduct capacity development for community members on GBV and SEA through community Outreach forums and Focus Group Discussions/Community Dialogues.
• Strengthen internal referral pathway of the RefuSHE holistic model.
• Compile and prepare quality monthly and periodic project progress reports.
• Collect and promote good practices and lessons learned, contributing to a collection of replicable good practices for gender equality programming: Document the lessons learned from the different interventions and on developing best practices and knowledge management capacity.
• Ensure that all relevant financial documentation is complete and submitted to finance in a timely manner as required by RefuSHE finance policy.
• Support qualitative assessments through Focus Groups Discussions (FGD) to better understand the risks of GBV and map out service support structures for GBV survivors.
• Contribute to the development of project proposals, concept notes and sector publications.
• Update outreach activities and track indicators to ensure achievement of targets using tools provided by RefuSHE.
• Participate in review meetings and GBV prevention activities with other partners.
• Share technical expertise on GBV prevention.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders including community leaders and other implementing partners.
• Supervision of Community Incentive Workers and Community Outreach Interns.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Community Development, Development Studies, Social Science, or relevant field from a recognized and reputable institution is required.
• At least 3-5 years of experience in implementation of GBV programs and management of community-based activities.
• Must have experience developing and managing program work plans.
• Demonstrated experience working across teams, departments, and eternal theme groups.
Required Skills and Competences
• Proficiency in English and Swahili
• Computer literacy a must with strong knowledge of Excel, and Word
• Ability to work in a team, maintain respect for diversity, uphold integrity, respect, and accountability
• Self-starter with an ability to work with minimal supervision, in a culturally diverse team
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations with local staff, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Accountability to affected populations
