JOB DETAILS:
Job Summary
The job holder will be responsible for the assessment of all underwriting risks and ensure
prudent management of these risks as per underwriting guidelines to deliver the desired
Key Responsibilities
• Review insurance applications presented to the company to determine their acceptability
or otherwise in line with the company underwriting and reinsurance treaty guidelines
• Carry out related activities to underwriting and ensure proper coordination and
enforcement to ensure smooth processes are carried out for client satisfaction
• Underwrite and process work in accordance with the delegated authority
• Ensure policies and endorsements are processed and dispatched in a timely manner
• Ensure accuracy and clarity of policy documentation issued to customers
• COMESA cards and cover notes to customers upon request
• Carry out the implementation of the credit control policy and ensure that premiums are
debited and collected as required
• Conduct performance review at renewal invitation for both retail and corporate customers
• Ensure that timelines for communication of renewal terms for both retail and corporate
customers are followed
• Maintain high level of standards of customer service by responding to general underwriting
enquiries (walk-in clients, telephone and emails)
• Liaise with intermediaries and direct clients on issues relating to their policies to ensure
prompt customer service
• Participate in all departmental meetings and contribute for betterment of the department
and company are not lost
• Ensure all statutory and regulatory requirements are met in a timely manner
• Ensure all external service providers deliver the required services as per the agreed
contract and SLAs
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Economics, or other business-related discipline
• Diploma in Insurance (ACII or AIIK)
Experience
• At least 5 years’ experience in the insurance industry in a busy underwriting function
Competencies
• At least 5 years’ experience in the insurance industry in a busy underwriting function
• In depth understanding of insurance operations and concepts
• Knowledge of insurance products
• Knowledge of underwriting processes and procedures
• Technical competence in underwriting insurance risks
• Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements
• Ability to deliver results and meet customer expectations
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills
• Excellent organizational and stakeholder management skills
• At least 5 years’ experience in the insurance industry in a busy underwriting function
