The Assistant Island Manager is the second most senior staff member on the island, reporting directly to the Island Manager (based on Chumbe Island), and in absence of the Island Manager oversees a team of 18-25 staff.

The main duty of the Assistant Island Manager is to support the Island Manager in their delivery of duties and on the Island Managers days off preform the Island Managers role.

Which includes assuring that all ecotourism operations meet CHICOP’s company culture and standards, that encourage top performance and high morale. The Assistant Island Manager is the face of CHICOP in front of guests, committed in having a professional and welcoming attitude at all times. The Assistant Island Manager reports directly to the Island Manager and is expected to work closely alongside the conservation and environmental education department of CHICOP with the understanding that education and conservation are equally as important as the ecotourism operations, together forming the three pillars that are fundamental to CHICOP. The role is based on Chumbe island, with work shifts operating in a rotation cycle of 5 days on followed by 2 days off. The individual needs to be highly motivated and adapted to work in an island environment that is immersive and requires high team spirits, especially whilst working, living and sharing meals in close quarters with staff.

Key tasks include:

● Supervise all day to day guest experiences and be present and reachable at all times whilst on island. Welcoming guests to Chumbe, preforming Check-in and Check-out, settling guest bills.

● Guest relationship management, including high attention to detail, compliance with any dietary requirements or special requests, complaint management, guest medical issues (if/where required) in close cooperation with the Project Manager and the island team. Embodying the Chumbe project including the environmental education program and conservation program.

● Support Island Manager, working closely with the Island Manager and implementing the changes and improvements instructed by the Island Manager. Reporting back to the Island Manager during handover. Support the Island Manager in identifying training needs and delivering training sessions on the island where needed.

● Staff management, directly supervising the hospitality teams on the island (Kitchen, housekeeping and maintenance). On the Island Managers days off, to be responsible for and to oversee the Island team. Managing the team with the aim to maintain a safe, harmonious, enjoyable work environment for staff which is conducive to delivering the best guest experience and staff professional growth.

● Kitchen and restaurant, supervise and support waiters and kitchen team in delivering high standards of customer service (both in terms of the service provided, and the products provided) and look for ways to improve guest experience and increase revenue by boosting sales of drinks and boutique items.

● Housekeeping, working with and monitoring the department that they perform all their duties to the highest level, and ensuring all guest areas are clean, tidy, presentable and in a welcoming state at all times. Conduct regular quality control checks.

● Maintenance, working in close partnership with the Maintenance Manager to plan, implement and monitor maintenance work.

● Administration, tracking staff attendance and time off, completing reports and filling in the guest register.

● Supply management, closely working with the Operations & Logistics Manager (based in CHICOP HQ) and respective departments to oversee the ordering, delivery, proper storage and management of all supplies for the island, including all food and beverage (F&B) supplies and boutique items.

● Stock keeping, complete regular stock takes in collaboration with the Head Chef (kitchen stocks), waiters (bar stocks) and housekeepers (linens and associated housekeeping stocks). As well as stock takes of the boutique.

● Uphold the high-quality standards and procedures of CHICOP towards guests and in all island operations, embodying the organisation’s integrity and commitment to conservation and education.

● Work in a sustainable and environmental friendly manner.

● Maintain the smooth operations of the island, its facilities, services and functions.
