About the job

Power Technician will install, repair, service, test and troubleshoot various equipment. The job holder should be able to read electrical system design plans and recommend improvements, as well as calibrate instruments, and diagnose faulty equipment.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Testing, commissioning, installation and acceptance of generator sets, rectifiers, backup batteries, UPS, inverters and grounding system
  • Surveys, plans, lays out, installs, maintains and repairs electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures for the offices, data center, repeaters and POPs
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning electrical systems, equipment, and components to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem
  • Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with standard codes.
  • Reports to the Infrastructure Coordinator in case of a hazardous operation or equipment, and future equipment upgrade for our power redundancy
  • Prepares and maintains records of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Advises Infrastructure coordinator on critical spare to be kept on the stocks
  • Checks, provides and verifies specifications of electrical parts for purchase and follow-up status of the same
  • Daily reports on power related status of the network

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Diploma in relevant Electrical and Electronics
  • At least 3 years ‘experience in a similar or related environment
  • Must be able to read precision instruments such as micrometers, voltmeters, digital multimeters, calibrators and other electronic diagnostic tools
  • Possess a strong clean and valid driver’s license.
  • Has a basic understanding of OH&S issues affecting the current role and working environment. Takes responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Understands and minimizes the physical risk of injury through the use of proper manual handling procedures
  • Result and performance-oriented individual
  • Excellent team player with good Leadership/mentoring/management skills
  • Ability to understand and effectively use internal process management tools.
  • Excellent command on both oral and written English and Swahili languages
