JOB DETAILS:
Responsibilities;
• Direct the activities of staff in relation to transport operations within the company.
• Monitor the general operations such as vehicles, drivers and mechanics to make sure that the operations are within the guidelines, safety measures, government orders, and administrative policies.
• Involve in the negotiation and authorization of contracts and other forms of purchases and procurements that are related to the company’s transportation/logistics needs.
• Develop important indicators that measure and show the effectiveness of the company’s transportation operations.
• Develop transportation policies within the firm.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures that drive fleet utilization and cost management.
• Assist in recruitment of employees such as drivers for the company.
• Develop and implement a driver management procedure
• Conduct necessary investigation(s) to determine the cause of problems like accidents (if any arises) and to set up safety measures to avoid recurrence of such issues.
• Develop and implement plans that will lead to improvement in company profit.
• Implement management recommendations, like proposed fees and change in movement schedule.
• Maintain open dialogue with other units’ managers so as to organize activities that will enhance company’s general performance.
• To manage and oversee the entire customer relations and improve the relationship at large.
• Take charge of investigations that look into customer complaints with regards to product delivery and other transportation-associated issues.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in logistics, business management, engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in a senior role in operations management in road transport and logistics within East Africa.
• Experience with operating trucks cross border to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi, Zambia and Congo.
• Experience working with union contracts and transportation-related government regulations.
• Should have critical thinking skills and knowledge of analytics and be able to plan.
• Experience working with transport management systems and tracking systems.
• Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations.
• Excellent communication, customer service and leadership skills.
• Good conflict resolution skills.
• Should have computer skills and other systems such as SAP etc.
• Must have customer centric mindset.
• Sound commercials understand of operating trucks within Tanzania.
• Be able to bring new clients to books will be an advantage.
• Ability to work high paced and under pressure.
