The Technical Manager Tanzania is responsible for the day to day operations in Tanzania, ensuring customer satisfaction through continued quality improvement in service delivery. The incumbent must maintain open communication regarding all technical matters relating to Tanzania, and maintain a positive working relationship with the Country Manager, Regional Operation and Technical Managers, Regional General Manager, Executive Management team and the various stakeholders.

 

This role will support our business by coordinating efficiently operation and reporting, improving quality of service from a technical point of view and developing the team. Finally, the role will promote profitable business development within the company.

Responsibilities

Critical responsibilities and skills of this position, listed in order of importance:

 

Technical :

 

  • Regularly attends on site at mines, warehouses, smelters, refineries in their coverage area etc...where inspections, sampling and sample preparation operations are being carried out.
  • Conducts continuous site internal audits and operation inspections to evaluate the team’s performances.
  • Coordinate the client complaint and implement correctives actions where needed
  • Coordinates new site setups according to client’s instructions.
  • Ensures client instructions are carried out in full as per appointments, and an efficient and accurate communication of information in relation to events.
  • Drafts Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and TSOPs for work on site.
  • Reviews and approves inspection reports according to group standards prior to release to clients.
  • Ensures health and safety protocols are adhered to and that the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and used by the staff under your control.
  • Maintains a correct environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Coordinates, in collaboration with Senior AHK Group technical staff with regards to the site procedures to ensure AHK and client’s interests are protected.
  • Assists the Operations Manager with the needed daily operational feedback.

 

Operations Team Management :

 

  • Recruits and trains local staff, manages leave and attendance of the teams.
  • Drafts plans for Audits and team evaluations following protocol.
  • Formulates strategic and technical objectives for teams.
  • Controls teams of supervisors and inspectors, to ensure that activities are performed as per documented procedures for the commodities in question.

 

Operations Performance Systems Management :

 

  • Improves operational management systems and processes for best practices.
  • Supports on FIOR, GIOS, L&D and Group implementation projects.
  • Promote the use of AHK digital tools.

 

Client-relations Management :

 

  • Coordinates and attends meetings and arrange frequent visits to sites.
  • Ensures effective customer support to all client enquiries related to technical.
  • In collaboration with all Managers, review and respond to all enquiries regarding the Tanzania Technical activities.

Required Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Good knowledge and understanding of inspection service
  • Good knowledge of ISO standard (9001, 17020, 17025, etc.)
  • Valid driving license
  • Mastery of English and knowledge of Swahili
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google suite applications.
  • Comprehensive applied knowledge and expertise, gained at a professional level, in Business Management.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering practices and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated, creative solutions.
  • Emotionally intelligent, persuasive and articulate, enabling cooperation and collaboration at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of the principles and processes of computerized business and operating systems.

Work Experience

 

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Proven success leading and contributing as a technical project/program manager in diverse projects ranging in scale from local to global impact.
  • Must have previously supervised or managed direct reports.
  • Exposure to, and preferably operating experience in Tanzania and / or Africa.
  • Experience and demonstrated success in working in a cross-border, international, matrix structure organization is an advantage.
  • Experience of living/working in an emerging market would be an advantage.
  • Able to demonstrate relevant experience with Metals & Mining.
  • Experience within the TIC industry preferred.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree or Masters in Engineering (chemical, metallurgy, geology, mining, etc.), Business or Management studies. This requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

 

Travel / Rotation Requirements

 

  • Travel as required both domestically and internationally.
  • Must have the ability for spontaneous travel.
  • Must have a valid passport and ability to obtain visas as necessary.
