Elasticsearch is an efficient datastore for logs, metrics, and application traces, supporting the three pillars of observability. The Observability team builds and maintains solutions that make getting insights from this data turnkey and efficient, such as our APM, Infrastructure Monitoring and Synthetics products. When developing these solutions, we think about the problem end-to-end: how do we automatically collect data from common data sources, how do we store it efficiently in Elasticsearch, how do we present this information to the user, what actions do we take on the insights from the data? All of these aspects are important in bringing a turnkey solution to the market.The roleAs an Engineering Manager for the Cloud-Native Monitoring in Observability and as part of the Infrastructure Observability organization, you will have the opportunity to manage a team of engineers working with Product Management and Technical Leadership. This team focuses on providing multiple ways to ingest logs and metrics from Kubernetes, other container orchestrators and related technologies, and, in collaboration with other teams, defining the end-to-end observability experience for these platforms. The goal of this team is to build high quality, high performance, low overhead and easy to use solutions that help our users to reduce MTTD and MTTR. You will work with other teams at Observability and Elastic to ensure delivery of a comprehensive observability solution that leverages the power of the Elastic Stack like Elasticsearch and Machine Learning on-prem and in the cloud.The team is diverse and distributed across the world, and collaborates on a daily basis over GitHub, Zoom, and Slack.Engineering philosophyWe believe that engineering complex, pluggable software for the web that is built to last the test of time is both tricky and exciting. • Experience working with distributed teams of software engineers, either as people manager or tech lead.
• Significant experience as a hands-on software engineer so you understand the core principles of the engineering work that is going on in your team
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to adapt the messaging to different perspectives (technical, business) and levels of detail.

Bonus points

• Experience working on Open Source projects.
• Experience in the Observability domain.
• Project management experience.
