It builds, owns and operates telecom passive infrastructure, providing services to mobile network operators. Helios Towers currently operates in 6 markets in Africa and has recently signed agreements to enter 4 new markets in Africa and Oman in the Middle East.

 

Overview

Reporting to the Delivery and Business Excellence Director, you will to lead and support Opco Projects team to safely deliver structural improvement projects. The role must ensure that Opco resources (internal and contracted) are supported and led in such a fashion that structural projects are delivered to meet and exceed the project success criteria. The role must also ensure that the HT strategies and standards are executed through the Project team strategy. The Group Structural Program Manager will be responsible to coordinate and support with each Opco to effectively manage all risks associated with the structural portfolio and escalate risks, issues and opportunities to senior OpCo management & the Group Executive team whilst ensuring that all stakeholders are effectively communicated with and updated on structural project progress. The Group structural program manager will be responsible for capacity building of Structural teams in each Opco and manage structural consultancy shared resources in such a way that HT realizes values and benefits from this relationship.

The role can be based in either of our operating countries in Africa.

Role Responsibilities

As Business Excellence Manager, you will be able to:

  • Work closely with the PMO and the OpCo Project Team to develop processes and build capability that enables Helios Towers to maintain its structural portfolio in recommended Helios Towers standards and in accordance with local regulatory standards.
  • Support OpCo Project Team to deliver programmes and projects on time, and within budget. Each structural project to be planned and managed to ensure the defined success criteria is always achieved.
  • Manage Project Quality Plan to ensure a systematic methodology for verifying all Quality Control related activities throughout the structural project including the responsibility for the management and co-ordination of all project specifications, drawings and inspection, gaining necessary approvals and ensuring the distribution and availability of information in approved company databases such as TiMs, Siterra etc.
  • Establish, lead and motivate the OpCos project teams in identifying all project stakeholders, including executive management ensuring that an appropriate communication plan is in place and executed to keep all project personnel informed of programs’ status, risks and opportunities.
  • Support OpCo projects Team in defining and managing project scope from establishing requirements, designing solution, determining equipment and contractor requirements and managing variations as they arise. Take a risk management approach to identify and manage opportunities and risks that maximize the potential of successfully achieving the project success criteria.
  • Work closely with OpCo Project Team to actively manage projects in Sales pipeline that have structural dependencies by identifying and planning, as per Sales & Operations Planning process to make sure the business is ready to execute once the Instruction to Proceed is signed.
  • Be conversant with and be able to demonstrate a proactive risk-based approach to EHS, ideally with experience obtained through formal recognised training programs and on the job supervision and share the experience with OpCo Structural project teams.
  • Lead OpCo Project Team in Management of all materials, manpower and subcontractors required for the execution of the project. Guide project managers in appropriate methods of selection, sourcing and scheduling of materials and subcontracted services in line with the project schedule.
  • Manage projects to be executed in line with the defined Helios Towers Project Management processes. Ensure that Project Managers are actively responsible of all databases, templates & reporting are kept up to date in a timely and accurate fashion in accordance with the company requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement through structured project reviews and work with the OpCo project and management teams to improve process, quality and safety standards. Actively participate in building the global capability of the project management team through coaching and mentoring. Ensure each OpCo has a dedicated skilled structural project expert that would be able to provide structural support to projects contractors.
  • Plan and manage third party structural consultancy resources assignment to the OpCos and ensure proper tracking of activities performed in structural audits, designs, mitigation of risks including management of danger notices.

Requirements for the Role

To succeed in the role, you will be/will have:

  • Degree/Diploma: Electrical Engineering/Civil Engineering/Telecommunication/ Project Management
  • Minimum commercial experience required – 5 to 10 years.
  • Minimum management experience required – 5 to 10+ years
  • 5 to 10+ Year’s telecommunications experience
  • Computer Literate (Excel, Word, Outlook)
