In addition to fostering career growth for individuals, GA helps employers cultivate top tech talent and spur innovation by transforming their teams through strategic learning. More than 21,000 employees at elite companies worldwide have honed their digital fluency with our corporate training programs. Our clients include everyone from many of the Fortune 500 companies, to government agencies, to small- and medium-sized businesses. Role Description

The General Assembly “Regal” team (that’s regulatory + legal, of course) is a critical partner to every department at GA. While working with our clients, we focus on getting to “yes” in an efficient and effective manner, with minimal risk and maximal fun.

The Regulatory team serves as a critical liaison between the company and its outside stakeholders. As Director of Compliance & Regulatory Affairs, your strength is in explaining complicated regulations to internal product teams, and complicated products to regulators. You will serve as a strategic and policy thought leader, both within the company and within the greater community. Your goals will be to develop creative solutions to regulatory hurdles faced by GA’s unique educational products, reduce risk exposure, and translate regulatory and compliance requirements into operational best practices. You will manage a team of regulatory experts who ensure day-to-day compliance with GA’s regulatory and licensure obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage company-wide compliance and risk management activities – Guide risk identification and assessment to protect the business, improve operational excellence and mitigate risk exposure. Spearhead efforts to streamline compliance response efforts.
  • Regulatory relationship management – Develop relationships with all external stakeholders, including government entities, public and private supporters, and non-profit partners. Understand the regulatory environment and ensure company compliance with all laws and regulations; identify, help shape, and develop strategic responses to compliance trends that may have a substantial impact on operations.
  • Product counseling - Work with internal stakeholders to develop and license new personalized, blended learning models; develop ways of working in an online-only future, and support transition to state-of-the-art systems, tools, and processes. Provide pragmatic, business-focussed advice to all stakeholders involved in the student journey, from marketing to admissions to student success and job placement.
  • Growth strategy - Work cross-functionally to identify strategic opportunities for expansion into new markets, both in the United States and abroad, based on regulatory requirements and business risk. Identify ways to optimize tech education regulatory frameworks to maximize new business opportunities (e.g. obtaining recognition as an eligible training provider at the state level allows GA to submit RFPs for government-funded training opportunities).
  • Corporate policy management – Develop a formal process to identify policy needs and ensure central, standardized oversight that emphasizes practicality, ease of employee adoption and local management buy-in.
  • Compliance training – Design effective compliance training, on-demand documentation, and communications to integrate ethical decision-making into day-to-day work.
  • Managerial Leadership – Recruit, develop and retain a high-performing team that effectively collaborates with the rest of the organization. Set performance objectives in line with the company's strategic goals and develop and manage the Regulatory budget and P&L.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You are able to advocate for a position while maintaining a collaborative and open-minded approach
  • You have a can-do attitude and willingness to roll up your sleeves, and a desire to get into the details of the business and legal and regulatory work of the company - no job too big or small.

  • Subject-matter expertise in education licensure preferred
