The Role

The Retail Territory Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of Sites in a retail territory are efficiently executed by Site management. This includes overseeing the performance of retail stores, ensuring that they are meeting sales and operational goals, and developing and implementing strategies to improve performance. The Retail Territory Operations Manager must have a strong understanding of retail operations, as well as the ability to motivate and lead a team, in order to reach Millat operational and strategic goals while upholding Franchisor regulation and standards.  These goals will include, but are not limited to, meet sales targets, control expenses and ensure exceptional standards of customer service are maintained.

In addition to being an excellent communicator, you will be required to demonstrate outstanding professionalism, leadership and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for up to 10 Sites in Tanzania, willingness to travel locally and internationally is a pre-requisite.

Responsibilities

Operations

Oversee the performance of sites, ensuring adherence to the following:

  • Conduct regular site visits at all designated sites to assess overall performance
  • Drive and grow sales targets (C-store and fuel), in conjunction with Site Management
  • Expenses are maintained in line with allocated budgets and store performance
  • GP is maintained across sites, per department
  • Conduct spot checks that Site Management is extracting reports for analysing and managing sales, GPs and other store performance criteria, including daily fuel reconciliation
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve sales, profit and expense performance
  • Implement cost control measures to improve profitability
  • Extract reports daily, weekly and monthly to analyse sales, margins and stock levels per Territory
  • Ensure promotions are correctly and timeously implemented
  • Ensure systems and equipment are operational and regular maintenance is carried out
  • Monitor sales and trends across Sites in order to align and keep marketing strategies relevant
  • Ensure Forecourt equipment is regularly calibrated in accordance with manufacturer guidelines
  • Conduct checks to ensure fuel is store in accordance with governmental and environmental regulations
  • Monitor and drive excellent customer service delivery

Stock

  • Ensure sites are conducting stock counts as outlined in the SOP manuals (C-store and fuel)
  • Conduct spot checks to ensure stock expiry guidelines are maintained
  • Investigate irregular stock levels and GP discrepancies
  • Ensure merchandising is aligned to Millat planogram layout and design standards

Staffing

  • Maintain a positive and productive work environment
  • Conduct quarterly performance evaluations on all Site Management
  • Ensure Site Management conducts quarterly performance evaluations on Site staff
  • Identify and report to HR the recruitment and training needs per Site
  • Ensure necessary disciplines are instituted in line with Millat policy
  • Provide feedback and coaching to store managers and staff

General

  • Keep updated and relevant with industry trends
  • Maintain a good understanding of country labour and business licencing regulation
  • Ensure safety across Sites – personal and environmental
  • Monitor health and food hygiene standards
  • Apply theft prevention measures, monitor security surveillance
  • Ad hoc responsibilities as requested by Heads of Operations and Convenience

 

 

Required profile for job ad : Territory Operations ManagerMinimum Requirements

  • Highest school grade, passed
  • Bachelor’s degree in Retail or relevant, advantageous
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior managerial role in FMCG retail
  • Strong leadership and customer management abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of business management processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
