Description
Who we are
At East Coast Agritech, we have developed a viable business model to employ modern and scalable farming technologies to make a real impact for smallholder farmers in Tanzania. We work closely with poultry farmers, providing them with easy-to-use prefabricated units containing advanced technology and 'ready to lay hens.' Our approach is tailored for small rural farms, aiming to increase egg production and improve the livelihoods of local farmers. As we gear up to expand our poultry business, our vision extends to scaling these technologies across diverse agricultural value chains and across the country in the years ahead.
Who you are
We are seeking a dynamic young professional, who has the potential to grow with us. The ideal candidate blends sharp intellect with a hands-on approach, not hesitating to roll up sleeves and dive into fieldwork. Proficiency in handling operational complexity is crucial, with a proven track record of thriving in fast-paced environments. Humility and a natural talent for managing people are key, as this role, if we and you are successful, will evolve into leading a sizable team. Additionally, we value curiosity and ideation, looking for a person that defaults to independently solve obstacles that get in their way.
Job Responsibilities
In this role, through your own contributions and your team’s performance, you're ultimately responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing seamless day-to-day operations, ensuring uninterrupted workflow and maximised output. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Field Staff Management: Manage a team of Extension Officers who are our first point of contact with farmers. Oversee weekly engagement meetings, surveys, and inspections, ensuring optimal performance and output from the extension team, promptly addressing any issues that may arise.
- Feed Supplies and Stock Management: Manage stock levels and orders efficiently to ensure continuous feed supplies. Coordinate transport logistics with our mill to ensure timely deliveries.
- After Sales Support: Meet with customers to build and maintain strong relationships. Address any of their challenges or concerns raised. Work closely with the sales team to support their needs.
- Deployment Oversight: Oversee the deployment of new units in the field every 4-8 weeks. Communicate with suppliers and technicians to ensure units are always set up on time.
- Farm Operations Coordination: Coordinate day-to-day activities with Farm Managers, both poultry and aqua. Manage both scheduled and unscheduled work plans to ensure operational efficiency.
- Operational Maintenance: Source and procure materials for general maintenance and ongoing needs. Manage contractors and handymen to deliver solutions and fixups timely.
- Financial Coordination: Liaise with the finance team to ensure accounts are up to date. Manage cash flow and payments, ensuring financial stability.
- Bachelor's degree in agriculture, Business Management, or a related field.
- 3-5 years' experience in agribusiness development or a similar operational role.
- Strong project management skills with a "getting-things-done" mindset.
- Excellent communication (English and Kiswahili) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
