About Empowered Girls

Empowered Girls started as an informal club in 2010 in Arusha for secondary school students, and it was registered in January 2020 as a national NGO in Tanzania. It sought to help girls live their dreams by learning life skills, growing self-esteem, understanding their God-given potential, knowing sexual and reproductive health, and having access to menstrual health needs and school supplies. To make these things accessible to the girls who need it most, it makes the lessons fun. It has programmes to support boys’ life skills, climate change adaptation, community seminars, teachers professional development, and more in the districts of Monduli, Arumeru, and Arusha, with outreach work in Longido, Moshi Rural, Arusha City, Dodoma City, Tarime, and Kyela districts. Its team includes four full-time mentors, four volunteer mentors, an M&E officer, an administrator, an accountant, a fundraiser, a cleaner, and a guard. Since its incorporation, it has grown steadily in both funding and ambition. It has funding from German, American, and Tanzanian partners.
