Short Brief of the Company

Tanganyika Plywood LTD (TPL) produces plywood for the local and regional markets in East Africa. It uses sustainable plantation materials, specifically eucalyptus and pine. The company has been operating for 8 years and is now looking for a dedicated HSE Officer to achieve it growth goals. The company is located in Mafinga, Tanzania and the project post is for a full-time position on site.

Job Overview We are seeking a diligent and proactive Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations within our manufacturing company. The role involves developing and implementing HSE policies, conducting risk assessments, and providing training to employees to promote a safe and healthy work environment. Responsibilities and Duties 

1. To Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of the workplace to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide HSE training to employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness of safety procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain records of HSE inspections, incidents, and training activities.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Monitor environmental performance and implement measures to minimize environmental impact.
  • Stay updated on relevant HSE regulations and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety training (e.g., IFAT, NOSCH) is advantageous.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing Industry.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and assess risks.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy, Microsoft Office packages, Statistical software and other collaborative tools such as SharePoint
