Background

The African Climate Foundation (ACF) is the first and only African-led climate change re-granting organisation on the continent. Through its grant making and thought leadership, the ACF seeks to support interventions at the nexus of climate change and development that have the greatest potential to deliver long-term socio-economic transformation and inclusive development.

 

Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Programmes, and working closely with the Sustainable Landuse and Agriculture Officers, the Programme Manager will oversee the development and execution of the Sustainable Landuse and Agriculture Strategy.

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Oversee sector-relevant research and analysis to inform effective programming, delivery, and monitoring of progress.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with grantees, funders, government officials, thought leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the MEL Advisor to monitor developments, identify emerging needs, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Manage programmatic budget, identify funding gaps, develop and lead fund raising strategies.
  • Oversee programmatic grant making portfolio, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness of programmatic grant making, and maintaining strong working relationships with grantee partners.
  • Contribute to the ACF’s thought leadership and represent the organization on public platforms.
  • Manage a highly functional and productive team based in different geographies.
  • Provide support to the broader ACF team, including the Board and Council, on issues related to Sustainable Landuse and Agriculture through research and inputs when requested.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in ecology, sustainable land management, conservation sciences, agrarian studies, agronomics and related fields
  • 10 years working experience in philanthropy, policy, or programme project implementation
  • Sophisticated writing and communication skills
  • Experience overseeing budgets
  • Ability to think strategically and innovate.
  • Ability to source, distil, synthesize and present large bodies of information
  • Ability to display keen appreciation for the complexities of Africa’s political economy issues and understand the key linkages between climate change and development
  • High level of interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
