ABOUT GEITA GOLD MINING LTD
Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in Denver, USA. AGA has operations in more than ten countries across four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 120 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its main office and operations in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
To perform advanced welding and fabrication tasks safely and efficiently, ensuring work meets the required quality standards. The role requires planning, execution, inspection, and reporting while working independently.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) and or VETA Trade Test Certificate Grade 1 in Welding and Fabrication or Equivalent.
- The incumbent must have valid Tanzanian driving license.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in welding within mining or related industries.
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex welding tasks with minimal supervision.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate leadership skills.
- Strong problem-solving and coordination abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills in Swahili and English, both written and oral.
- Physically fit, motivated, and able to maintain composure in stressful situations.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Perform welding and fabrication on heavy mining equipment (e.g., buckets, trays, frames, chassis) and attachments as per OEM or engineering specifications.
- Conduct on-site repairs in pits, workshops, or remote mining locations using mobile welding equipment.
- Fabricate brackets, guards, stands, stairs, platforms, or handrails as per engineering drawings and site safety requirements.
- Assist with scheduled maintenance of support structures, equipment mounts, and tool storage setups in maintenance bays.
- Participate in strip-down and rebuild activities of major components (e.g., dump bodies, frames) including crack detection and repairs.
- Carry out welding with proper joint preparation and alignment, especially for critical load-bearing structures on mobile equipment.
- Provide fabrication and welding support for engineering upgrades or construction projects (e.g. Fuel Bay upgrades).
- Perform positional welding, MIG/TIG or flux-cored welding were required on high-strength structural components.
- Ensure all fabricated parts meet quality standards and specifications laid out by engineering or OEM manuals.
- Maintain records of welding repairs, completed jobs, and materials used, and report to your supervisor.
