As a Tour Guide Driver with Lusungulwamtwa Safaris, you’ll be more than just a driver; you’ll be an ambassador for Tanzania, a wildlife expert, and a key part of our guests’ once-in-a-lifetime experience. You’ll be responsible for safely transporting clients, providing insightful commentary on wildlife and local culture, and ensuring every safari runs smoothly.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking individuals who embody professionalism, passion, and a commitment to exceptional customer service. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the skills and qualifications we value:

1. Driving Expertise & Certifications

  • valid Tanzanian driver’s license with Category C and PSV endorsements is essential.
  • Extensive experience with off-road driving and familiarity with varied terrains.
  • Basic mechanical skills for vehicle troubleshooting in remote areas are a plus.
  • Defensive/offensive driving certification is an added advantage.

2. Experience that Counts:

  • A minimum of 3-6 years of experience as a professional driver-guide, ideally within safari or cultural tourism settings.
  • A proven track record of safe driving and guest transport.

3. Tour Guiding & Interpretation Skills:

  • Solid knowledge of local wildlife, ecosystems, geography, cultural sites, and historical landmarks relevant to Tanzania.
  • Strong verbal storytelling and presentation skills to deliver engaging tour commentary.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili is required. Knowledge of additional languages (e.g., French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Russian) is a significant advantage.

4. Exceptional Customer Service & Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to diverse guest needs.
  • A strong customer service-oriented mindset with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and composure under pressure to handle unexpected situations effectively.

5. Safety, Compliance & First Aid:

  • Familiarity with local safety regulations, park protocols, and risk management procedures.
  • First Aid / CPR certification is highly recommended, especially for remote operations.
  • clean driving record and, where required, background checks or certificates of good conduct.

6. Technical & Operational Skills:

  • Competence with radios, GPS, and standard communication devices used during tours.
  • Proficiency with basic office software (e.g., email, Word, Excel) for scheduling and tour documentation.
  • Capability to assist with itinerary planning, activity reservations, and on-the-fly logistics.

7. Physical Fitness & Personal Traits:

  • Good physical stamina for long hours of driving, walking tours, and assisting with luggage/equipment.
  • Punctuality, responsibility, and readiness for long working days, often away from home during peak season.
  • A team player with a calm, entertaining, and adaptable attitude.
