Silver Bell Group is looking for an experienced Civil Site Inspector to provide the supervision and inspection of infrastructure works within a large industrial port development project in Dar es Salaam (Port Zone Development). Our client is engaged in large-scale industrial infrastructure projects across East Africa.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience working on infrastructure projects with internationally recognized engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily site inspections of ongoing civil works including earthworks, pavements, road layers, curbs, drainage channels, utility corridors, and concrete structures.
- Ensure that the contractor’s work complies with approved drawings, method statements, material submittals, and international standards.
- Assist in verifying construction alignments, levels, slopes, thicknesses, and workmanship.
- Monitor and report on concrete pouring, compaction, backfilling, and other critical site activities.
- Raise non-conformance reports (NCRs) where deviations are identified and follow up on corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed site records, including inspection requests (IRs), photographic documentation, and daily progress notes.
- Attend site meetings and provide support in resolving technical queries and minor construction issues.
- Support the Resident Engineer in reviewing contractor performance and progress against the work schedule.
- Coordinate with lab technicians to ensure proper sampling, testing, and recording of civil construction materials.
- Promote adherence to site safety requirements and environmental controls.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Technology.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in site supervision of civil infrastructure projects, particularly involving roads, pavements, and site grading.
- Solid knowledge of construction materials, QA/QC procedures, and inspection protocols.
- Familiarity with international standards (AASHTO, ASTM, BS, or EN).
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, profiles, and cross-sections.
- Hands-on experience in site measurement, inspection reports, and contractor coordination.
- Competent in using basic software for documentation and reporting (MS Excel, Word).
Preferred
- Experience working in industrial or port infrastructure projects is an advantage.
- Previous exposure to multinational teams or projects executed under FIDIC contracts.
- Strong observational, reporting, and communication skills. Good knowledge of English is mandatory.
- Ability to work in challenging outdoor environments and adapt to fast-paced construction timelines.
