Secretary General
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) formed in 1963 has 26 Dioceses spread all over Tanzania. The Church focuses on propagating the "holistic" Gospel serving human through spiritual, social, economic and environmental programs /interventions in order to have a God loving community hence fulfilling God's mission in Tanzania. ELCT Vision is "A communion of people rejoicing in love and peace; blessed spiritually and physically, hoping to inherit eternal life through Jesus Christ.” While the Mission is "To make people know Jesus Christ and have life in its fullness by bringing to them the Good News through words and deeds based on the Word of God as it is in the Bible and the Lutheran teachings guided by the ELCT Constitution".

Scope of Position
The holder of this position is the Chief Administrator and Chief Accounting Officer of the ELCT - Common Work (CW) and is responsible for the overall management of the Secretariat.

Position Relationship
• Reports to the Presiding Bishop,
• Supervises all Heads of Departments and Independent Units: Deputy Secretary General (Mission & Evangelism), Deputy Secretary General (Finance & Administration), Deputy Secretary General (Planning & Development), Deputy Secretary General (Social Services and Women's work), Legal Secretary, Coordinator Advocacy, Coordinator Communication, Media & ICT.
• Liaises with the General Secretaries of Dioceses and Heads of Church's institutions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Serves as a Chief Administrator and Chief Accounting Officer of the ELCT – CW
• Supervises the implementations of policies and decisions of the General Assembly, Executive Council and Executive Committee as may be directed by the Presiding Bishop
• Communicates with all institutions and organs in the Church on policies and decisions as the case may be.
• Promotes within the body of staff of the ELCT - Unit's discipline, integrity, teamwork and exemplary performance.
• Maintains contacts with all stakeholders of the Church internal and external) with a view of keeping them aware and/or follow-up of the developments of the Church.
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned by the Presiding Bishop, the General Assembly, Executive Council and the Executive Committee.

Position Specifications
• Must be a lay Christian (she/he) of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination age not below 40 and not above 55.
• Holder of a degree in any of the following disciplines; law, economics, social sciences, theology (not ordained), administration/management or its equivalent.
• A post-graduate degree in any of those disciplines will be an added advantage .
• Working experience in management functions of not less than ten years and have a clean record of unquestionable integrity.
