Silver Bell Group is looking for an experienced Civil Engineer to oversee the construction of heavy-duty pavement and road construction works within a large industrial infrastructure project in Dar es Salaam (Port Zone Development). Our client is engaged in large-scale industrial infrastructure projects across East Africa.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and inspect all construction works related to heavy-duty pavements and road networks, including sub-base, base, asphalt, concrete, and surface finishes.
- Review and approve contractors’ submittals, including shop drawings, method statements, ITPs, and material approvals.
- Ensure works are executed in full compliance with international standards (e.g., AASHTO, ASTM, BS, EN), project specifications, and approved designs.
- Oversee on-site material testing, quality control, and performance monitoring, particularly for concrete, asphalt, and granular layers.
- Coordinate effectively with contractors, designers, laboratories, and other site supervision personnel to maintain high-quality output.
- Monitor progress, track construction activities against schedules, and support the resolution of any delays or technical issues.
- Prepare detailed daily and weekly site reports, non-conformance reports, and inspection documentation.
- Enforce high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance on site.
- Participate in technical meetings and support the resolution of engineering design queries.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the construction supervision of heavy-duty pavements and roads.
- Proven expertise in construction and QA/QC of flexible and rigid pavements in industrial or transport infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of international engineering standards (AASHTO, ASTM, BS, EN); Experience applying them in supervision roles.
- Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with construction supervision tools and reporting software (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project, Excel).
- Excellent knowledge of English is mandatory.
Preferred:
- Experience working under international consultancy or engineering firms.
- Familiarity with FIDIC contract conditions and performance-based infrastructure contracts.
- Strong communication and leadership skills in multicultural environments.
