USAID TANZANIA MONITORING, EVALUATION, LEARNING AND ADAPTATION ACTIVITY (USAID T-MELA) POSITION DESCRIPTION: MEL Interns (2)
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
On January 19, 2023, USAID/Tanzania awarded IBI a contract for the Tanzania Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Adaptation (USAID T-MELA) Activity. T-MELA is a four-year contract aimed at assisting the USAID/Tanzania Mission with strategy- and activity-level performance monitoring, evaluation, and learning. This activity will also provide data gathering and verification, data visualization (including Geographic Information Systems), data quality assessments, impact and performance evaluations, assessments, organizational learning, and collaboration among USAID’s implementing partners and DO teams. T-MELA has four components: i) Performance monitoring ii) Assessments and Evaluations iii) Collaborating, Learning and Adapting and iv) Capacity building for local M&E Organizations.
POSITION:
USAID T-MELA seeks two MEL Interns to support the monitoring team on data quality assessments (DQAs) and MEL issues. The MEL Interns will work closely with T-MELA’s teams, monitor activities, and support data quality assessments (DQA) and all its related logistics. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, eager to learn, and have a foundation in monitoring (focus on data quality assessments), evaluation, and learning. The ideal candidate should possess analytical skills, qualitative and quantitative, communication skills, data collection, ability to multi-task, attention to detail, research and report writing skills. This position is for Tanzanian nationals only.
RESPONSIBILITIES/PRODUCTS:
- Assist/support the T-MELA DQA team in organizing and coordinating field DQA visits.
- Work closely with the DQA team and assist in notetaking during the DQA field visits.
- Support the DQA team to conduct (head-quarter and field) DQAs including introduction, system assessment, data verifications, completing DQA checklists for assigned indicators etc
- Compiling summaries, briefs, lessons learned and findings from DQA visits daily or as assigned by the supervisor.
- Produce daily field reports/milestones of activities conducted & completed/ongoing as assigned by the supervisor.
- Work on any other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor (s)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s program in a relevant field such as Social Research, Project Management, Public Administration, Sociology, or related fields.
- Candidates with a master’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation are preferred.
- Experience with GOT, CSO, USAID, United Nations, or other bilateral and or multilateral preferred.
ADDITIONAL/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates need to know the basics of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Teams. It’s good if they’re familiar with data tools and project management software. They should be able to communicate well in English and Swahili and handle multiple tasks. Also, a grasp of simple research and problem-solving is important.
Professional Behavior: Interns should work well with others and understand people from different backgrounds. They need to be open to feedback and manage changes. Being independent, yet a good team player is key. They should act ethically, and respect confidentiality, and if they know about Tanzanian Government structures, that’s a plus.

SUPERVISION: Under the Supervision of the Senior Monitoring Specialist
