The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) provides general education courses for all undergraduate students, with few select undergraduate programs and post graduate studies in the education field: BA in Mass Communication (Arabic and English), Post Graduate Professional Diploma in Teaching (English), MSc in Special Education, and Med in Educational Leadership. CAS also provides courses in areas of Sciences, Mathematics, and Statistics that are college requirement courses for UG students joining Engineering and Health Sciences programs.
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Abu Dhabi University seeks a candidate for a the position of Media Lab Specialist to join the Department of Mass Communication. The candidate should hold a Master’s degree in Mass Communication specializing in Broadcasting, Media Production, New Media or any other relevant field and be able to teach video production and software courses and to perform maintenance of studio and video production equipment as well. The duties of the Media Lab Specialist include:
Media Lab Teaching and Learning
- Deliver lab related course.
- Running the practical segments of the Video Production courses as assigned by the department chair.
- Offer tutorials or workshops based on the faculty recommendation to assist with solving any learning problems students may have.
- Supervising Students during studio sessions.
- Maintain the class attendance and up-to-date records of all the lab sessions.
- Facilitate Media lab use for students during operating hours.
- Assist students with their Media lab related projects.
- Train lecturers, staff, and students in the proper usage of various media equipment and demonstrates the operation of such equipment.
Lab and equipment management
- Facilitate Media lab use for students via bookings during operating hours
- Manage the preparation, installation and maintenance of various equipment, and other materials used for class exercises and demonstrations.
- Providing all necessary technical support to students as well as faculty who use the studio
- Communicate and coordinate with faculty, staff and students regarding Media lab resources and procedures.
- Update and maintain the inventory of supplies, equipment and other materials needed for daily operations of the Media lab.
- Liaise with vendors to receive new equipment training and ensure proper installation
- Procure Media lab materials
- Keeping the media labs in a sound working condition.
- To troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on equipment and systems.
- To remain current on new technology, methodology and equipment.
- To organize equipment storage area, maintains inventory, assists with equipment check out for staff members and assembles carts with necessary equipment for use during the day.
Health and safety
- Ensure compliance with all relevant aspects of health & safety whilst undertaking duties.
- Ensure all the Media Lab users comply with all relevant aspects of health & safety.
- Ensure all safety guidelines are always followed strictly.
- Maintain a clean and orderly Lab environment
General support
- Assist in the course file completion and perform administrative tasks such as correspondence, proctoring etc.
- Assist with student events, media productions, provide capstone troubleshooting, support during open days and outreach activities with prospective students.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Mass Communication specializing in Broadcasting, Media Production, New Media or any other relevant field
- 3-4 years of experience in a similar position
- Video production and graphic design skills
- Effective presentation skills, both theoretical and practical.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with social media and new technologies.
