Are you a social performance leader ready to make a meaningful impact in Tanzania and across East Africa? A leading international environmental and sustainability consultancy is seeking a Manager - Social Sciences to join their growing team in Dar es Salaam.

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a high-performing team delivering Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and advisory services for major mining, infrastructure, and energy projects across the region.

You'll bring strong technical expertise, deep local knowledge, and the leadership to guide complex, multi-stakeholder projects in line with national laws and international best practice (e.g. IFC, Equator Principles).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Social Sciences team based in Dar es Salaam, ensuring quality project delivery.
  • Oversee and contribute to social baseline studies, stakeholder engagement plans, socio-economic assessments, and resettlement action plans (RAPs).
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, communities, regulators, and local stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership on business development, proposal writing, and strategic growth initiatives in the region.
  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian regulations and global ESG standards.
  • Mentor junior team members and drive a positive, inclusive team culture.

Candidate Profile

  • Postgraduate degree in social sciences, development studies, environmental management, or similar.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in consulting or project-based social performance work.
  • Strong understanding of Tanzania's regulatory framework and experience with international standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, stakeholder engagement, and reporting skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Tanzania and across East Africa.
