Description

SportfishingPNG is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Fishing Guide / Fleet Manager to join our team. This exciting role offers a chance to oversee and lead fishing expeditions in some of the most remote and beautiful areas of Papua New Guinea. As part of our team, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of expeditions, ensuring the smooth running of the fleet, and providing exceptional leadership both on and off the water.
Key Responsibilities:
Expedition Planning & Management:

  • Plan daily fishing activities with the team and delegate responsibilities.
  • Oversee and guide clients on fishing trips, ensuring top-notch experiences.
  • Ensure all boats are clean, maintained, and checked after each trip.
  • Assist with organizing logistics, such as food and equipment for expeditions.

Fleet & Equipment Management:

  • Monitor boat conditions and maintenance needs, ensuring safety and reliability.
  • Coordinate the work in the workshop, overseeing pending jobs and fleet maintenance.
  • Ensure all equipment, consumables, and provisions are properly rationed and stocked.

Team Leadership & Staff Well-being:

  • Lead and manage the fishing guide team, ensuring efficient operations and a positive working environment.
  • Ensure the welfare of all crew members, providing support when needed.
  • Conduct regular bag checks of staff.
  • Ensure housekeeping is completed promptly.

Communication & Coordination:

  • Maintain constant communication with the office regarding plans, weather, and movement.
  • Coordinate with business partners and contacts in the field to ensure smooth operations.
  • Document all expedition activities, equipment usage, and any incidents.

Required Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  • At least a college graduate.
  • Extensive experience in fishing and guiding, with knowledge of various fishing techniques.
  • Proficient in driving small craft boats (31-foot center console, 4-meter aluminum river boats).
  • Familiarity with outboard engine maintenance is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Charismatic, personable approach with clients and staff.
  • Comfortable using computers, sounders, radios, and other work-related gadgets.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to work on call, 24/7.
  • Willing to undergo random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Non-smoker is an advantage.
