Tearfund is looking for a Lead Agriculture and Livelihoods Technical Advisor (ALTA) who will lead a team of 5 ALTAs located throughout sub-Saharan Africa, and provide primary technical support to Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) members and partners in the eastern Africa region. 15% of the ALTA’s time will be spent supporting Tearfund’s Africa food security programming.
The Lead ALTA will guide the capacity development of over 50 implementing NGO partners in sub-Saharan Africa by facilitating learning activities such as exchanges, workshops, conferences, and literature dissemination. They will mentor ALTAs and utilize monitoring and evaluation data collected by partners to understand the overall progress in reaching project outcomes. They will also coordinate with national, regional, and global organisations promoting Agriculture and Livelihoods activities, including conservation agriculture, in order to advance Foodgrains’ members, partners and Tearfund interests and visibility in the region.
We are looking for candidates with extensive experience in the following areas:
- Agricultural development projects in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Providing agricultural extension services
- Working with Ministry of Agriculture staff
- Program monitoring and evaluation including designing and evaluating projects.
- Working with and through local partners
The successful applicant will also have:
- Ability to motivate and develop the skills of others
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proven track record in report writing
- Training, facilitation and presentation skills
- Knowledge of information technologies including spreadsheets, statistical software programs, and webinar delivery platforms
- Fluency (written and spoken) in English

Location & Salary: this role will be based in one of Tearfund’s registered Counties in Sub-saharan Africa, salary will be dependent on location. Candidates must have the right to live and work in Sub-Saharan Africa.
