JOB DETAILS:
Kilimanjaro Research Institute (KCRI) forms the third pillar of the Good Samaritan foundation next to health services (KCMC) and training (KCMUCO) is an academic centre for evidence-based health interventions. We initiate and conduct medical research to develop evidences for interventions and provide research training and necessary research logistics to collaborators and partners. KCRI wishes to a Laboratory Technician/technologist position. The successful candidate will provide technical support at KCRI Sample receiving area.
Qualification
• A Diploma/degree in health/medical laboratory sciences from a recognized training institution
Experience
• Experience in basic laboratory techniques, and practices including quality control and quality assurance
• Training in Good Clinical laboratory practice (GCLP) desirable
• Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, basic data entry, and email required

Job Description
• Process the receipt, identification, preparation of samples, and requests entering the laboratory.
• Use the specimen tracker system [DISA]) to track and keep log of specimen received after identification, preparation, and dispatch to the proper laboratory unit
• Work with the team to validate the laboratory sample and results tracking system (DISA) for configured tests and ensure that the validation results are approved and the records are well kept.
• Advise and alert the appropriate laboratory unit about the urgent samples and samples that require special handling or attention
• Be knowledgeable in handling the laboratory computer system and confidently use test libraries, internet and referral data during data entry 6. Keep himself/herself updated on the current trend performance related to his/her duties
• Maintain the level of service and professionalism by ensuring the completeness and timeliness of all procedures through regular documentation
• Attend to and handle queries about the samples and requests in a timely and professional manner
• Acquire knowledge on how to operate the pieces of equipment that are used in the laboratory reception area.

Terms
• 1 year renewable contract; probation period of 6 months
• Salary will be provided based on Government scales.
