About Us: D42 is a leading player in the international trade and export industry, specializing in a diverse range of agricultural commodities. We are expanding our operations and are currently seeking a skilled Head of Business Development to join our team in Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize the development of the business growth strategy, working closely with senior management to identify growth opportunities, assess market trends, and define strategic priorities.
- Prepare and obtain approvals for investment cases to support future business growth initiatives, including new projects, expansions, and acquisitions.
- Drive the M&A process from target identification and due diligence to negotiation, deal structuring, and integration, ensuring alignment with business objectives and strategy.
- Organize a Project Management Office (PMO) and establish robust reporting processes for existing and new businesses in the country, ensuring effective project execution and performance monitoring.
- Develop a KPI system and performance management framework to track and evaluate business performance, identify areas for improvement, and drive continuous growth and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, marketing, and sales, to align business development activities with operational capabilities and market needs.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive dynamics, and regulatory changes, providing strategic insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Act as a key liaison with external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry associations, investors, and potential partners, to foster positive relationships and explore collaboration opportunities.
- Tanzania-based role (Dar Es Salaam). Up to 25% travel throughout the African continent
Required Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in Strategy and Business Development.
- 3-5 years of experience in strategic consulting with a reputable firm (EM/ exceptional JEM within big3), preferably with exposure to the agriculture sector.
- 2-3 years of experience in production or agriculture, demonstrating a strong consistent performance and financial results.
- Proven track record of driving business growth and delivering results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated drive, ambition, and passion for driving business success and making a positive impact in the agriculture sector.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters/ Bachelors in Mathematics/ Physics/ Engineering
- Top international MBA, CFA is an advantage
- Fluent English, other languages is a plus
