PROJECT OVERVIEW:
On January 19, 2023, USAID/Tanzania awarded IBI a contract for the Tanzania Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Adaptation (USAID T-MELA) Activity. T-MELA is a four-year contract aimed at assisting the USAID/Tanzania Mission with strategy- and activity-level performance monitoring, evaluation, and learning. This activity will also provide data gathering and verification, data visualization (including Geographic Information Systems), data quality assessments, impact and performance evaluations, assessments, organizational learning, and collaboration among USAID’s implementing partners and DO teams. T-MELA has four components: i) Performance monitoring ii) Assessments and Evaluations iii) Collaborating, Learning and Adapting and iv) Capacity building for local M&E Organizations.
POSITION:
USAID T-MELA IBI is seeking two Evaluation and Assessment Interns to support T-MELA Evaluation and Assessment Specialists. In this role, the intern will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, engage in hands-on data organization, and support evaluation data collection, and all its logistics. This position offers a unique opportunity to hone the incumbent’s technical and organizational skills, work on impactful projects, and gain practical experience in the development sector. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, eager to learn, and have a foundation in data management, social research, program evaluation, or related assessments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
SCHEDULING AND COORDINATION
- Schedule meetings, interviews, and sessions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for the smooth execution of tasks.
- Coordinate with T-MELA staff for various project activities.
DATA MANAGEMENT
- Learn and collect data and provide logistical support to data collection.
- Assist in organizing and cataloging collected data for easy retrieval.
- Contribute to the development of data collection tools and methodologies.
- Support in ensuring the quality assurance system is adhered to during data collection.
- Support survey programming (as required)
- Learn about both quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
REPORT AND DOCUMENT PREPARATION
- Perform transcription of audio recordings
- Maintain and update trackers for interviews and other scheduled activities.
- Help in preparing field-level reports by gathering relevant data and drafting initial versions for review.
- Offer support in fieldwork processes such as enumerator training and data collection.
By the end of this internship, the intern will have gained an in-depth understanding of the intricacies involved in project evaluation and assessment, coupled with hands-on experience in managing various project-related tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s program in a relevant field such as Data Management, Social Research, Project Management, Public Administration, Sociology, or related fields. Students with master’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation are preferred.
- Experience in data collection and management in a minimum of 2 assessments, surveys, evaluation or similar
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Candidates need to know the basics of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Teams. It’s good if they’re familiar with data tools and project management software. They should be able to communicate well in English and Swahili and handle multiple tasks. Also, a grasp of simple research and problem-solving is important.
PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOUR
Interns should work well with others and understand people from different backgrounds. They need to be open to feedback and manage changes. Being independent, yet a good team player is key. They should act ethically, and respect confidentiality, and if they know about Tanzanian government structures, that’s a plus.

SUPERVISION:
This position will be technically supervised by the Task Lead – Evaluation and Assessment
