Position: Earthworks Superintendent (1 position)
Reports to: Earthworks Manager
Roster: 6 Weeks on, 3 Weeks Off roster
Duty Station: Nyanzaga, Sengerema, Mwanza
Contract type: Specified Period of Time contract
Position purpose
The Earthworks Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing all earthworks activities for the Nyanzaga Project in Tanzania. This role ensures that earthmoving operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, schedules, and environmental regulations.
Roles and Responsibilities
Management of Safety, Environment, & Community Relations
- Review employment and working conditions to ensure legal compliance
- Adhere to company policies and procedures regarding safety, environment, health, and community
- Monitor earthworks activities to ensure adherence to environmental regulations and sustainable practices, minimizing ecological impact
- Foster positive relationships with local communities and stakeholders, addressing concerns related to earthworks activities
Operations
- Review and interpret project plans, blueprints, and specifications related to earthworks
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of earthworks progress, including daily reports and material usage logs
- Identify and resolve issues or conflicts that may arise during earthworks operations
- Plan and coordinate daily earthworks activities, including excavation, grading, and soil compaction
- Monitor equipment usage and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to align earthworks operations with overall project goals
- Supervise a team of operators, laborers, and subcontractors involved in earthworks
Qualification & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in construction management or a related field is advantageous
- Valid international driver’s license
- Equipment operator certifications are beneficial
- 5 years’ relevant experience in relevant position
- Extensive experience in managing earthworks operations on construction sites
- In-depth knowledge of earthmoving equipment, techniques, and best practices
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications
- Commitment to safety and environmental compliance
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
- Familiarity with local regulations and community engagement practices in Tanzania
- Experience with GPS and other advanced earthmoving technologies
- Familiarity with local regulations and permitting processes related to earthworks
- Ability to operate various types of earthmoving equipment
