1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Confederation of Tanzania Industries is a Business Membership Organisation that was launched in July 1991. It is an independent, self-financed, legally constituted organisation that serves its members by speaking out on their behalf and generally representing their interests. The main aim of CTI is to ensure that there is a conducive legal, financial and economic environment within which industry can operate effectively, prosper and contribute to national wealth and development. CTI has been very active in advocating for a conducive business environment for its members so that they can become competitive.

2.0 MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Communication and Documentation is responsible for manning the communication function, which entails developing and managing a strategic and effective communication plan for CTI and in so doing managing communication activities that promote, enhance and protect the organization’s reputation. The person needs to build and nurture relationships with the public through various media platforms with the aim of advancing the organization’s position with relevant stakeholders, as well as promoting the profile for the organization.

3.0 DUTIES

His/Her duties include:

  • Overseeing the implementation of the Confederation’s communication strategy with a view to promoting CTI’s brand identity;
  • Timely dissemination of information to CTI members and other relevant authorities;
  • Cultivating and enhancing meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media and key influencers;
  • Preparing Press releases and Media campaigns to enhance public relations;
  • Dissemination of the Confederation’s news in the media;
  • Maintaining the security of books, journals and other documents;
  • Managing library services and making recommendations for improvement;
  • Digitalising CTI documents in order to preserve the available literature for the future;
  • Binding and keeping in safe custody CTI documents;
  • Oversee the development of all print and digital communications including the annual report, other reports and electronic communications including CTI’s website and social media pages;
  • Serve as a lead point person on media interactions;
  • Preparing talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material as needed;
  • Actively engage, cultivate and manage press relationships to ensure proper coverage surrounding CTI priorities, special events, and other projects;
  • Develop communications products and services that facilitate member engagement, retention and recruitment;
  • Lead the communication department to support the development and execution of the communications strategy;

Required profile for job ad : Director of Communication & Documentation (DCD)4.0 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication, or related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred;
  • 10 years of experience, at least 5 years in management role;
  • Demonstrated skill in proactively building and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, including reporters and editors;
  • Extensive successful writing and editing experience with a variety of print and online communications media;
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communication and media relations;
  • Creative and thoughtful on how new media technologies can be utilized;
  • Extensive experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of newsletters, press releases, speeches, annual reports, social media and other print publications and directories;
  • Innovative, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans;
  • Energetic, self-reliant, good problem solver, cooperative, results-oriented;
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management;
  • Knowledge of the Private sector and ICT will be an added advantage.

5.0      REMUNERATION

Negotiable within the Confederation’s salary structure.
