Responsibilities:

• Assist the team in all aspects of the data science lifecycle, including data collection, cleaning, exploration, analysis, and modeling.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, patterns, and relationships within datasets.
• Develop and implement data cleaning and pre-processing routines to ensure data quality and usability.
• Leverage your programming skills (e.g., Python, R, Julia) to automate data analysis tasks and build efficient and effective data pipelines.
• Develop and implement a variety of ML models, including forecasting models and recommendation models, to predict future demand and identify potential disruptions in the supply chain.
• Create clear and compelling data visualizations (e.g., dashboards, charts, graphs) to effectively communicate insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques in data science and machine learning which can be translated into the ongoing and future projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into data-driven solutions.
• Document findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner. Partner with stakeholders across the organization to identify key business questions and opportunities that can be addressed through data analysis.
• Develop and implement data science methodologies to extract meaningful insights from diverse datasets.
• Design, build, and deploy machine learning models to solve real-world business problems.
• Communicate complex data findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences through compelling visualizations and storytelling.
• Stay current on the latest data science trends and technologies, and actively participate in knowledge sharing within the team.
• Collaborate with other advisors to develop and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure.
• Advocate for a data-driven culture within Afya Intelligence and our partners.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Health Informatics) or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in data science and/or ML.
• Strong programming skills in Python or R (familiarity with other languages a plus) and experience with data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib)
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with statistical concepts in understanding data, identifying patterns and trends, making predictions and drawing conclusions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Enthusiasm, a sense for serving others and a willingness to learn and grow.
• Experience working on projects related to healthcare, data science, and/or AI/ML.
• Experience working with different API standards and consumption of data.
• Proven experience leveraging SQL and relational databases to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data for analysis.

Bonus points for:

• Experience with health information systems such as DHIS2, eLMIS and/or VIMS
• Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and their applications.
• Experience in Django, Flask or any related Python framework.
• Experience with machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Experience with database querying languages (e.g., SQL)
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment (a plus).
