We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate individual to join our team as the Manager of Curation and Usage. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the curation of music content, optimizing user experience, and driving engagement on the platform.

Job Description:

As the Manager of Curation and Usage, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Mdundo.com offers a compelling and diverse music catalog to our users while optimizing the platform's engagement. You will collaborate with artists, music industry professionals, and internal teams to curate and showcase high-quality music content, develop personalized music recommendations, and implement features that enhance the user experience. Your role will require a deep understanding of African music genres, user behavior, and industry trends.

Measure of Success

• Quality of Curation: Measured by the quality of curated content on the platform. This includes selecting and featuring high-quality music, ensuring a diverse and appealing catalog, and staying updated with current music trends. Metrics to consider include user feedback, ratings, and reviews on curated playlists and content.

• User Engagement: Increasing user engagement is a key indicator of a manager's success in curating and presenting content. Metrics such as the number of plays, listens, shares, and saves on curated playlists and featured content can provide insights into user engagement and satisfaction.

• Playlists Performance: Metrics to consider include the number of followers, average listening time, and the rate of playlist saves. Additionally, tracking how often curated playlists are shared and mentioned on social media platforms can indicate their popularity and impact.

• User Retention and Satisfaction:Measured by the platform's user retention rate and overall user satisfaction. Metrics such as user churn rate, user feedback, and customer surveys can help assess how well the manager's curation efforts align with the preferences and expectations of Mdundo.com's user base.

• Conversion and Revenue: Evaluated by their ability to contribute to the conversion of free users into paying subscribers. Tracking metrics such as conversion rates, attributed revenue from curated playlists, and the number of premium subscriptions driven by curated content can indicate the impact of the manager's curation efforts on revenue generation.

• Collaborations and Partnerships: Evaluated based on their ability to establish collaborations and partnerships with artists, record labels, and other industry stakeholders. Metrics to consider include the number and quality of collaborations, exclusive releases, and brand partnerships facilitated by the manager.

Responsibilities:

Curation and Music Content Management:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive music curation strategy that aligns with Mdundo.com's objectives and target audience.
• Curate and showcase a diverse and high-quality DJ Mixes catalog.Create and manage playlists, ensuring they are relevant, engaging, and cater to various user preferences.
• Maintain and update the music catalog, ensuring accuracy, metadata completeness, and quality standards.
• Source and evaluate music submissions to ensure they meet quality standards and align with our platform's content guidelines.
• Ensure accurate and up-to-date metadata for all music tracks, including artist information, genre classification, and album details.
• Collaborate with the Product team to enhance the music discovery and recommendation algorithms on the platform.
• Editorial Voice: Develop and maintain an editorial voice for Mdundo’s playlists and DJ Mixes, ensuring consistency in tone and messaging. This involves writing playlist descriptions, artist biographies, and other content to provide context and enhance the listening experience.

Engagement and User Retention:

• Develop strategies and campaigns to drive user engagement, encourage playlist creation, and increase user retention on the platform.
• Collaborate with marketing and content teams to develop engaging music-related content, promotions, and campaigns.
• Monitor user feedback, comments, and inquiries to identify areas for improvement and address user concerns promptly.
• Implement strategies to enhance user loyalty and encourage user-generated content and community participation.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

• Utilize data analytics tools and metrics to track and analyze user behavior, content performance, and engagement on the platform.
• Generate regular reports and insights on key performance indicators (KPIs), user engagement, and content popularity.
• Make data-driven recommendations to optimize curation strategies, content offerings, and user experience.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Music, Arts, Media or a related field.
• Proven work experience in music curation, content management, or a related role within the music industry or digital media platforms.
• Deep understanding and passion for African music genres and the African music industry.
• Strong knowledge of music metadata standards, music licensing, and copyright regulations.
• Experience in analyzing user behavior, engagement metrics, and data analytics tools.
• Good organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
