The Opportunity
Abt Associates seeks a qualified global health professional to serve as the country lead for the Community Health Workers (CHW) Activity under the USAID-funded Local Health System Sustainability Project (LHSS). The Project aims to help low- and middle-income countries transition to sustainable, self-financed health systems as a means to support access to universal health coverage. Led by Abt Associates, the five-year project works with partner countries and local stakeholders to reduce financial barriers to care and treatment, ensure equitable access to essential health services for all people, and improve the quality of health services.
As the country lead for the CHW Activity, you will have the opportunity to co-design the in-country portion of the Activity by liaising with key stakeholders. You will be responsible for day-to-day program design and startup, which will include coordination with local stakeholders, and liaising with in-country Abt and global LHSS teams to ensure technical excellence and operational efficiency.
This is a three-month consultancy position. The anticipated period of performance is December 2023 – February 2024. The anticipated level of effort for the duration of the period is up to 40 days. Based on programmatic needs, there is potential to extend the position beyond February 2024.
Local country nationals, women, and candidates from other under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.
Core Responsibilities
Lead the identification of key documents and stakeholders in the Tanzania community health workers space, both within the public and private sectors. Develop, facilitate, and maintain working relationships with all stakeholders throughout the Activity.
Assist the LHSS global team in organizing and executing a scoping trip, including scheduling meetings with stakeholders and organizations, and participating in technical discussions to shape the Activity.
Develop a country work plan and budget in collaboration with the LHSS global team and local stakeholders.
Serve as the country point of contact during startup for technical, operational, and financial matters.
Organize and lead meetings and workshops hosted by the Activity.
Work collaboratively with the LHSS global team to oversee the Activity.
Contribute to project-level reporting through documentation of Activity progress and routine reporting.
Participate in relevant external meetings and workshops related to community health workers in Tanzania.
