The SweetGAINS project, in collaboration with the Integrated Seed Sector Development (ISSD) Africa project, plans to validate the use of loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technology for sweetpotato virus diagnosis in Tanzania as part of the seed regulatory proceThe International Potato Center’sSweetGAINS project seeks the services of a competent consultant to train International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) staff currently handling cassava LAMP activities on sweetpotato protocols.
Objectives: The objective of this consultancy is to plan and conduct a Training of Trainers workshop on LAMP for sweetpotato virus diagnostics in Tanzania. The consultant will Work closely with CIP Lima Head of Virology.
Deliverables
• Preparation (lyophilization of positives controls etc) and dry runs in Nairobi, Kenya. • Setting up and preparations at IITA Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
• Conduct Training of Trainers workshop.
• Preparation of training report.
Qualifications/special skills
• A PhD in Biotechnology or related fields.
• Conversant with the use of Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) technology for field detection of sweetpotato viruses.
• At least 5 years’ experience working with seed regulatory bodies.
• Ability to conduct training of trainers.
• Excellent organization skills.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary global environment.
Expected duration and conditions:
• This consultancy contract is for 10 days on a retainer basis.
• The payment is a fixed and consolidated fee based on a daily rate.
