Job Purpose:
The Aquatic/Aquaculture Scientist is responsible for everything involving water quality, biodiversity, the surrounding environment and ecosystem of the new fish farm facility at Lake Tanganyika. This role involves sampling on and in the water (diving license of advantage, or willing to do the PADI), analyzing samples in the lab, data analysis and management as well as report/proposal writing. The candidate should have strong analytical skills, a deep interest in aquaculture, aquatic ecology & biodiversity, conservation.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead aquatic data sampling campaigns (from surface and underwater)
Establish and maintain the aquatic laboratory at the fish farm facility
Establish regular water quality monitoring and SOPs for field and laboratory
Identify, analyze and communicate the Sustainability Key Performance Indicators for the Native Species and Nature Positive Aquaculture Concept
Lead a small team of one field/laboratory assistance and one technical employee
Collaborate and exchange with other conservation/research organizations and the local authorities on the Lake Tanganyika Ecosystem
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in relevant field for advertised job
Diving license
Up to 2 years of previous experience as scientific assistance in a laboratory and/or in fieldwork in aquatic ecology, aquaculture
Willingness to lead/supervise a small team and take responsibility
Willingness to travel as needed
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to lead a small team
Analytical abilities, with attention to detail
Self-driven with the capacity to make well-informed decisions.
Proficiency in Swahili and English is essential
