Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in Denver, USA. AGA has operations in more than ten countries across four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 120 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its main office and operations in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To carry out safely the tasks of fuel distribution to stationary and tracked equipment in the mining pits and other active operational areas across the mine. The role also requires the refueling of wheeled equipment on emergency enquiries and as instructed by the supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Certificate of Secondary School Education.
  •  The incumbent must have valid Tanzanian driving license class E.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum experience of three (3) years in driving heavy-duty vehicles (HDV) preferably in the mining industry.

 

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure all refueling operations are performed in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Report to work on time and maintain punctuality throughout shifts.
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections (prestart) and record any defects; report critical issues immediately to the supervisor and coordinate repairs with the LME workshop.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the fuel bowser, both inside the cab and exterior.
  • Verify and record the correct volume of fuel loaded into the truck, confirming against the previous shift’s records before proceeding.
  • Ensure the fuel bowser is parked and the bulk tank is filled to the required maximum volume at the end of the shift.
  • Accept and sign for fuel received into the bowser in coordination with the Puma fuel attendant.
  • Inspect metering units (LC Meter and LAS Controller) to ensure readings are visible and accurate for volume tracking.
  • Accurately record meter readings at the start and end of each shift for reconciliation purposes.
  • Operate vehicles safely and appropriately, considering road and weather conditions, to protect fuel trucks from damage.
  • Follow the refueling schedule as directed by your supervisor and respond promptly to updates or changes.
  • Maintain radio communication with the Mining Pit Operations Supervisor for any urgent refueling needs.
  • Ensure equipment is filled completely during refueling; apply specific measures for equipment like lighting plants, where limited fuel volumes are required.
  • Accurately document all refueling data, including equipment numbers, engine hour meter readings, date, time, volume, operator ID, and signature.
  • Report any suspected fuel theft or irregularities immediately.
  • Verify that the LAS fuel management controller is functioning and synchronized with the manual meter, report discrepancies or faulty components promptly.
  • Perform end-of-shift reconciliation to ensure fuel received and dispensed is accurately balanced.
  • Submit the completed fuel dispensing sheet to the Security Fuel Reconciliation Officer at the end of each shift.

 

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in driving Benz trucks, especially the Actros model, will be an added advantage.
  • Sound knowledge on Health, Safety and Environmental issues
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and results-driven with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Effective critical thinking skills to reason and identify problems and concerns of alternative solutions to problems.
