Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Roster: 6 Weeks on, 3 Weeks Off roster
Duty Station: Nyanzaga, Sengerema, Mwanza
Contract Type: Specified Period of Time contract
Position Purpose
The Lifting Superintendent will be responsible for the management and safety of all employees and contractors working on the construction site. They will ensure that safety regulations are adhered to and maintained at all times. This position will report directly to the Maintenance Manager to coordinate and supervise all lifting activities and ensure that the ground conditions are safe for operations.
Roles and Responsibilities
Management of Safety, Environment, & Community Relations
Review employment and working conditions to ensure legal compliance.
Adhere to company policies and procedures regarding safety, environment, health, and community.
Ensure all cranes and lifting devices are in a safe working condition prior to use.
Ensure all the following documents are completed prior to lift or operation: Skill development programs
JSA
Lifting Plan
Pre-Start
Lift register
Ensure all cranes and lifting devices are formally commissioned when arriving on site, including sub-contractors.
Manage all lifting chains, slings, shackles including the development and implementation of a lifting equipment register in conjunction with the maintenance manager.
Develop and implement a crane lift logbook.
Ensure the upkeep and documentation is correct and accurate for all crane logbooks.
Supervise and manage all crane operators and riggers, including assisting with rosters and manning levels.
Generate a lifting schedule in conjunction with Perseus site activities and that of sub-contractors.
Oversee lifts conducted by Perseus, subcontractors, and other third parties to ensure compliance with Perseus Policies, standards, and procedures.
Ensure all cranes and lifting devices are operated within their design parameters.
Assist with maintenance scheduling in conjunction with the maintenance planners / Maintenance management.
Assist with the development of standard and registered JSA for repeat lifts.
Conduct crane and lifting device inspections for all machinery across the site, including sub-contractors.
Develop cranes and lifting device pre-starts and inspection forms.
Develop and implement a rigging equipment register including inspection forms (Go – No Go).
Quarterly lifting equipment tagging, inspections, and reporting.
Order or re-order lifting equipment in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager.
Assist with breakdown spare parts and recommended spare list for all cranes.
Ensure all operators and riggers are trained on how to complete inspections and pre-starts.
Develop an electronic centralized register of all crane lifts.
Conduct and/or participate in pre-start, toolbox, and site HSE Committee meetings.
Train and mentor Perseus mining and contractors’ personnel to increase their skills and knowledge.
Develop and implement competency-based training and assessment tools.
Perform other tasks as directed.
Qualification/Experience
Heavy Combination (HC) and Heavy Rigid (HR) truck licences.
Certificate Ill in Construction Crane Operations (CPC32912).
Intermediate rigging accreditation and a dogging licence.
Minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
Flexible and adaptable to rapid environmental changes.
A self-starter, proactive, diligent, mature, and disciplined.
Strong ethical and professional values.
Ability to show initiative and have good interpersonal skills.
Positive attitude.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
