About the job

Our client is seeking a General Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the logistics company& operations in Tanzania, ensuring efficient and cost-effective management of resources. The GM will provide strategic leadership, drive growth, and maintain high standards of customer service while ensuring compliance with local and international regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the company’s strategic plan to achieve its long-term objectives.
  • Lead and manage the overall logistics operations, including warehousing, transportation, distribution, and supply chain management.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to align business goals and objectives with operational capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities for expansion, cost reduction, and process optimization.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, quality control, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Implement best practices in logistics and supply chain management to improve productivity.
  • Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure business objectives are met.
  • Manage fleet operations, maintenance, and route planning to optimize delivery performance.
  • Prepare and manage the company’s budget, ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Monitor expenses, revenues, and profitability, and implement corrective measures when necessary.
  • Oversee financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by managing service delivery and addressing customer concerns.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer loyalty and retention.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international regulations, including health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to minimize operational risks.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and competitive landscape.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Set performance goals, conduct regular performance reviews, and identify training needs.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive work environment that encourages collaboration and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; an MBA or other advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a senior management role within the logistics, supply chain, or transportation industry.
  • Proven track record of leading large teams and managing complex logistics operations.
  • Strong understanding of logistics, transportation, warehousing, and supply chain management.
  • Excellent financial acumen and experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of the Tanzanian market, regulations, and business environment is an advantage.
