JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose:
Organic Field Officers are responsible for working directly with farmers to educate them on organic growing practices and ensuring they are adhering organic guidelines throughout the planting, growing, and harvesting process.
Key Responsibilities:
• Training & Advocacy: Conduct training sessions for farmers on key organic farming principles
• Site Visits: Regularly visit farmers sites to ensure that organic principles are being adhered to
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with other FOs as well as management to ensure organic supply goals are met.
• Feedback Collection: Gather feedback from both farmers and stakeholders so Halisi can continuously improve how it works with farmers and local governments
• Reporting: Document and report findings from site visits, including challenges faced by farmers, proposing actionable solutions.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Soil Science, or related fields.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in agronomy or a similar role.
• Previous experience or understanding of organic farming and sesame would be advantageous but not required
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong knowledge of agronomic practices and principles.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the capability to lead training sessions.
• Analytical abilities, with attention to detail especially when evaluating application methods and agricultural practices.
• Self-driven with the capacity to make well-informed decisions.
• Proficiency in Swahili and English is essential
